A Real-Life Case Study: PulsePoint

Yay, you finished the second practice set! Learning Java was challenging, but you nailed those concepts. Time for another study break!

Almost every mobile app you can think of involves bringing information into people's hands -- it could be emails, social media feeds, or the latest news articles. The key is to bring the right information to people at the right place and at the right time. If any of those conditions are not true, the user uninstalls the app because it wasn’t useful.

For example, if someone has a health problem, there’s probably a lot of information on the internet, but they may not know where to look for it. Or maybe there’s too much information, and they don’t know how to filter for what’s relevant to them. As developers, we can identify knowledge gaps around us, and then use mobile technology to bridge those gaps. We can then bring relevant information to the people who need it most, right when they need it.

In our next story, we’ll hear about how Richard Price saw an opportunity to use mobile phones to address an unfilled need in his community with the PulsePoint app.
